twitter, technology hiatus & life

twitter has taken over my life and has caused me to think in blocks of 140 characters or less!

it's sad, i know. and i am well aware i have been consumed by technology. you don't need to tell me.

i will be taking a week-long hiatus from technology soon. once i get everything situated with my stupid power cord (more on that later) and get back into the swing of things, i shall be taking a break.

----------

twitter:

twitter is quite useful, but it's also very evil at the same time. i have recently become addicted to the damn thing.

might as well start at the beginning...

i made a twitter to follow Amanda Palmer of the dresden dolls because she's awesome and i wanted to be updated on things she was doing. then i started following the boston globe, various other news sources, neil gaiman, livestrong, lance armstrong, george hincapie, johann bruyneel, team asatana cycling, HUMANWINE and a variety of other people, famous and not.

i convinced some of my friends to make twitters by saying that they should follow amanda (if they liked her/knew who she was...and if they didn't i introduced them to her work) I also told them that they should follow me. so i was succesful in getting some friends on twitter and thus forcing a few more people in the population to think in blocks of text no longer than 140 characters.

in short, i'm actually quite evil.

recently my good comrade, heather, joined me in the ranks of being evil by using twitter.

Hey, what can I say...just wanted to be kept up to date on some favorite bands...and then twitter showed me all it's glory and enveloped me in a sea of neverending 140 character blocks of text.

but enough about that for now.

------
Life:

life has been interesting since graduating from college. i honestly have no idea what i want to do with my b.a. in english. but i do know that i need to find a job, and sooner rather than later.

so i'm going to apply to a ton of newspapers and tv stations in the area because that was my concentration...broadcast media. hyeahhh.

friday i'm going to see the firey furnaces with heather and eric. and it is going to be epic. at the middle east. :)

saturday is heather's big giant party and it will also be epic.

i can't wait to see eric but i'm gonna miss him this summer as he is going to be riding his bicycle across the united states with bike & build.

i also need to get to boston this summer. i always have the urge to go to such places as harvard square, cafe pamplona, the boston aquarium, the charles river and random stores and things. i also want to go to jamaica plain and to the arboretum there.

-------

and now technology hiatus, because i promised i'd talk about it:

i really need to take a break and cut the tether to technology, especially twitter.

so in the not so distant future and sooner rather than later, i will be taking a week off of the internet/computer/technology/everything because it will be good for the soul. I will not use AIM, or the internet or twitter, or the computer, or texting, or twitter updates to my phone, or anything.

i am considering of just using the phone part of my phone because i need to stay in contact with work if they should call as well as my family in case of emergencies. but i also may permit friends to call (not text) me during said week of zero technology because phones did exist before the internet (not cells obviously, but work has my cell number and not my home phone number.) and i don't use my home phone anymore. i use my cell as kinda my home phone/cell phone. so yeah. i haven't decided yet.

why i want to do this: because it's good for the soul. i will hopefully become less reliant on the internet and such. and because i've been freaking out lately when technology in my life fails.

for example: my power cord for my laptop being dumb...i freaked and freaked and freaked and made my father try and help me fix said problem. and a new one is allegedly being sent by dell. (which is good because now i don't have to settle for less than i wanted for my macbook pro!!!)

(btdubs...only about $500 more to raise until i can get the macbook pro i want!!)

also if twitter updates arent coming in correctly i try and fix it. something dies, i try and fix it. but not only do i fix it, i stop everything i am doing to fix said technology device. this isnt that good.

anyhoo, i will stop blabbing now as i don't think many people read this blog.

this rain needs to stop. it's depressing.

thankfully, i have not begun to think in 140 characters or less. i doubt that will ever happen. i always talk in more words than are necessary, which is sometimes beneficial and sometimes not, in life. i also have not become addicted to twitter...yet. i say 'yet' because if neil patrick harris gets a twitter and updates it fifty billion times a day, i will probably then become addicted. just kidding. maybe. also, i love your description of my "big giant party" hahahaha...hopefully it will live up to this description.

Luckily, I still have the ability to think in longer than 140 character blocks of text as this blog entry proves, haha. But I have become quite clever in the art of shortening things to 140 characters or less.

And your party...I'm sure it'll live up to my description because even though I only know a handful of the people going (I'll be meeting the rest there) I'm sure everyone there is fucking awesome (or rather everyone that will be there is fucking awesome seeing the party hasn't happened yet haha). :P
